Too Conservative for Minnesota
Jason Lewis is a ultra-right-wing talk show host from Minnesota – called “Mr. Right” by the Minnesota Tea Party and endorsed by the shadowy Freedom Club – now running for Congress in Minnesota’s 2nd District.
Jason Lewis has made his name tearing down women and minorities on the air waves, and now he is running from his right-wing record: as soon as he announced his congressional run, he scrubbed all of his talk show transcripts from his website.
Unfortunately for Jason Lewis, our research team has kept close track of him over the years, and we’ve compiled the list below as the case against electing Jason Lewis to Congress.
When even the Republican establishment has denounced some of his commentary, you know Jason Lewis is too conservative for Minnesota. That’s why we say: #NeverLewis
Women only think about their diaphragms… and are ‘ignorant’ and ‘non-thinking’!
The staunchly pro-life Jason Lewis once told his listening audience that women spent more time thinking about their diaphragms than anything else, and were “simply ignorant on the important issues in life.”
“I never thought in my lifetime where’d you have so many single, or I should say, yeah single women who would vote on the issue of somebody else buying their diaphragm…
Those women are ignorant in, I mean, the most generic way… Is that really the most important thing to a 25-year old unmarried woman – uh getting me to pay for her pills? Seriously?!
You’ve got a vast majority of young single women who couldn’t explain to you what GDP means. You know what they care about? They care about abortion. They care about abortion and gay marriage. They care about 'The View.' They are non-thinking.” [‘Lewis Facing Strong Criticism for Past Comments About Women,’ Star Tribune, 2/16/16]
Even Establishment Republicans think he is too extreme
“Minnesota GOP officials criticized some of Lewis’ previous statements. Chris Fields, deputy chairman of the Republican Party of Minnesota, told Brodkorb that Lewis’ comments “are contradictory to the values Republicans share and principles the party was founded upon.” [Star Tribune, 2/25/16]
Lewis has boasted about getting Michele Bachmann elected
Lewis has a long history of supporting extreme politicians and policies, including boasting about supporting right-wing Rep. Michele Bachmann’s presidential campaign.
Indeed, radio talk show host Jason Lewis introduced her at Monday's event as the "original tea party patriot who has been bashing the party establishment her entire life." [2/27/2011]
Jason Lewis is a climate change denier
In March 2011, Jason Lewis penned an op-ed for the Star Tribune in which he wrote:
“EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson remains steadfast in her desire to unilaterally impose massive new greenhouse-gas regulations on energy producers…All in the name of a global warming theory whose fundamental premise looks weaker every day…Across the globe, the last few winters have been exceedingly harsh…And therein lies the problem. The global-warming hysteria is based on computer models, not empirical data, because the records simply don't go back far enough.” [Jason Lewis, Star Tribune, 3/19/11]
Jason Lewis has even said he “happens to like gridlock”
On Fox Business in July 2011, Lewis said, “Now, you know, I happen to like gridlock. I get real nervous when politicians start to compromise.” [Fox Business, 7/22/11]
